Advanced Gravis Ultrasound for sale:

    1MB RAM

    Latest drivers and SW (including power chords & recording session)

    Original box, docs, etc

    (optional) Star Control II game

Asking $125 for the 1MB GUS (the product ships with 256K RAM), another $25
for SCII (or, make me an offer for one or both).  SCII has native support for
the GUS (which is why I bought it), and (in fact) one of the demos with the
GUS SW is from the SCII sound track.

Why am I selling this you ask?  Since I now run NT almost all the time on my
PC, and NT drivers for the GUS are not likely to be found any time soon.  If
there were such drivers, I wouldn't sell (I really like the board).  If you
run DOS and/or Windows, you're covered and the drivers work quite well.

Hello,

 I've been thinking, would it be possible to use the GUS for RAM? Like the
Video RAM utilities, I don't know if it would be possible to read from the
GUS chips <???>, haven't really looked into the SDK that much. But just a
idea I thought up when trying to get some more memory the other day...

Subject: Computer Shopper GUS review

Out of curiousity, who wrote this soundcard review? Most of these journalists
have many political ties with certain companies, which shows up in these
reviews. I've found it's always helpful to remember when reading anything a
"computer journalist" has written that this is a guy who has a job which
compares quite well with being paid to watch television. It's not like these
guys actually know what they're talking about, for the most part.

Just a note -- if your favorite computer store doesn't have GUS's in
stock & doesn't have one on a demo system -- tell them to call Ingram
Micro & ask about the demo special that's currently running. Tell
them it's Ingram's part #106654.

The CD-In is separate from the Line In.  However, you can't control the
CD-In.  It's always on.

With the exception of the gunshot patch (#127), don't replace the
instruments in ultrasnd.ini or ultramid.ini with ones that don't sound
similar if you want the music and sound effects in games to sound as
they should.  Also, don't replace smaller patches with larger patches
for Mega-Em or if you use ultramid with the -c option.  You can add
new patches to the percussion bank without worry, though.  Just
add a line with a new number (any number between 0-127 or 1-128,
depending on the file you're editing, that's not yet used) plus the
name of the patch.

Use pupdate.exe (in GUSAIL*.ZIP and maybe UMID102.ZIP) to update the
accordeon patch.

A week?  Most of us have been waiting for 10 months. :)  Hold your horses.

The Sierra rep on CIS would not commit to any dates for the release of the
GUS driver or when it would show up in Sierra games.  He did say that
it won't be backward-compatible with older Sierra games, though.

well, I mailed my registration in for the gus in april/may and got my
registration disks yesterday.  Hey, 6 months ain't too bad!  I mean, I
called their bbs twice, called canada long distance twice and got all my
internet e-mail bounced back to me whenever I mailed Gravis.  Heck, I even got
told twice that I would be in the next shipment of upgrades.  But all that's
behind me now.  I got my 2.06 disks mailed to me. They were MELTED, but I
got 'em!

mucho thanks to Matt Arbeid @ Gravis for mailing to me.  I know the melting bit
wasn't your fault...
heh, heh
